Jesus addressed God as Father but the word he actually used was “Abba,” which means Daddy. It’s an endearment used by a child about the daddy he trusts.

When my brother Tim was in Israel some years ago he overheard a little boy–a real, normal little Jewish boy–call his own father “Abba.” Tim got all choked up with the significance and the intimacy of that term.

But not all of us are comfortable with the concept of God as father, even (or especially) Daddy.

If you don’t want to pray directly to your Abba, you can whisper your needs to Jesus and I’m sure he, in confidence, will pass them on for you.
