The Apple and the Whale

Despite the claims of everyone from Milton to Mark Twain, it wasn’t an apple. It was fruit from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

And despite Veggie Tales, it wasn’t a whale. It could have been something like a grouper or a Mola-Mola.* But it wasn’t a whale. It was a “great fish.”

There. I got that off my chest.

*Mola-mola (ocean sunfish) taken by Daniel Botelho , at http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/34335/two+years+later+alien-like+sea+creature+gains+internet+stardom/. Isn’t he cute–in a heart-stopping sort of way?

Whales could not swallow a man. Most of them can’t swallow anything bigger than microscopic plankton.Fish such as groupers can swallow a Volkswagen–or, presumably, Cameron Diaz: http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hollywood/article/81765.html.

“I always wondered why large groupers that people saw were always the size of VW Beetles, as opposed to say, Fiats, Mini Coopers, Escalades, etc.” Comment by a diver on http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/archive/index.php/t-161668.html:
