NOTE: I’ve learned more about Adolf Hitler since writing this, facts which document and supplement what I have written. Wikipedia has an excellent discussion of Hitler’s self-serving views with direct quotes from him and those closest to him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_views_of_Adolf_Hitler.
Publicly Hitler defended what he called “positive Christianity.” In a 1928 speech he said: “We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity … in fact our movement is Christian.”
But his definition of Christianity gutted and perverted Biblical Christianity, denying God’s love for the Jews as His chosen people and their role in history and prophecy, as well as the Jewish heritage of Jesus and the Scriptures themselves.
For instance, in Mein Kampf, he attributed anti-Semitism to Jesus Christ: “And the founder of Christianity made no secret indeed of his estimation of the Jewish people. When He found it necessary, He drove those enemies of the human race out of the Temple of God.” Hitler said, “Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.”
Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda and one of his closest confidants, wrote in 1941 that Hitler “hates Christianity” and noted in his diary in 1939 that “The Fuhrer is deeply religious, though completely anti-Christian” and in a conversation with Goebbels had “expressed his revulsion against Christianity. He wished that the time were ripe for him to be able to openly express that.”
Yet Hitler never left the (Roman Catholic) church and would not allow his most intimate associates to leave the church either–for “tactical reasons,” Goebbels wrote.
Hitler did a lot of evil things. He slandered and lied to and stole from and killed millions and he deceived millions more.
He set up an Aryan ideal–blond, blue-eyed–and declared that the world had to be purged of those who did not match this ideal. Yet he himself did not match the Aryan image. He was the world’s biggest hypocrite.
Hitler was especially evil because his own mother was Jewish, which means Adolf himself was a Jew, which means he was rejecting, betraying, and slaughtering his own people.
All that is heinous, egregious, but even that is not the worst of it.
The worst thing he did was to do it all in the name of the Christian God, “Gott mit uns.” In the name of Jesus Christ, who loved them, he ripped their families apart. In the name of Jesus, who came as one of them to seek and to save the lost, he brutalized them. In the name of Jesus, their servant/Savior, he butchered them. And in the name of Jesus, their Messiah King, he blamed them for Jesus’ death.
In the Jewish Scriptures, Isaiah says Messiah took all their transgressions and iniquities–and ours–on himself. The guilt of our not recognizing him and our rejecting him, he not only covered but took away, once for all, with his own blood. And as he died at our hands, he said, “Father, forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing.”
The reason I’m bringing this up now is, if Israel strikes Iran, it will have worldwide repercussions. I expect those repercussions will start a chain reaction of anti-Semitic hysteria and pogroms (organized genocidal massacre) against Jews everywhere.
I want to assure those who will take the brunt of this that the Christian God does not condone any of it.
