“He gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.” Psalm 106:15
A majority of voters have repudiated the values which were the bedrock on which this country was founded and the reason God “shed His grace” on America.
God gives us a choice: life or death, blessing or cursing. In the Bible, He delineates the values which are life-giving and those that lead to death. He urges us to choose life and with it, restored blessing for our country. Yet we have chosen death. We have chosen as a nation to be cursed.
We have chosen the “leeks and the garlic,” the freebies and entitlements which financial experts say will bankrupt our country within two decades.
We have chosen a king who will take money from those of us who have earned it and give it to those of us who haven’t. By doing this, he will handicap the rich, who will no longer be able to endow hospitals (which provide jobs) and fund schools (which provide jobs) and businesses (which provide jobs). The rich will no longer have any incentive to work in this country if they are working only to supply a socialist government with money to give to other people. So the wealthy will leave, taking their money with them.
He will handicap the middle-class, those who will be laid off because employers who have to pay higher insurance rates can no longer afford to pay them. The middle-class will no longer be able to take so many trips on airlines and cruise ships (which will cause lay-offs), stay in motels as often (which will cause lay-offs), or eat out at restaurants as frequently (which will cause lay-offs).
We have already experienced this belt-tightening during his first four years. What do we have in store for us now that the man “has more flexibility”!
Because we have stopped being grateful for the way God has blessed our country with abundance and peace, because we have rejected Him, because we have rejected His warnings (9/11, natural disasters like Katrina and Sandy, droughts, earthquakes and weather extremes), because we are going farther and farther from Him and refuse to listen to Him, God is giving us our heads, like runaway horses, and will let us suffer the consequences.
Psalm 37:4 promises, “Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.” But it is also true that if you flip Him off, He will give you the demands of your will. And that is not a promise, it is judgment. As C.S. Lewis put it, “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’ ”
Jonathan Cahn’s The Harbinger explains it all so well. If you want to understand what is happening in this country and why, if you want (bittersweet) solace for the results of the recent election, I urge you again to read that book.
You watch and see. We will pay a heavy price to get our own way. It will bring leanness into our economy and much worse, into our souls.
