EUROPE passes

318Almost daily I snapped a picture of the view through the porthole. I loved having it change without my doing anything. It was like being a child again on our yacht Phoenix as my parents, brother Ted and three Japanese men sailed around the world.

We had not made it to Europe. When we were about to take a shortcut from the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean, the Suez Crisis changed our minds.

After I grew up, Jerry and I spent one day in continental Europe, exploring the Normandy coastline and German fortifications. Now we were cutting a swath all the way across it.116
